Singapore terrace house: A row of connected houses. A corner terrace house is the last house on the row.

Landed property unique to Singapore includes colonial bungalows and conservation shop houses. The former refers to Singapore bungalows that were built pre-war, when Singapore was still under the British. The latter refers to shop houses, generally pre-war as well, that have been marked for conservation.

In the 1970s, the Singapore government placed restrictions via the Residential Property Act on the foreign ownership of Singapore landed property for sale.

This Act sought to strike a balance between giving Singaporeans a stake in the country by being able to buy and own residential properties at affordable prices while attracting foreign talent by allowing permanent residents and foreign companies that make an economic contribution to Singapore to purchase such properties for their occupation. Under the Act, a foreign person is defined as a person who is not a Singapore citizen, a foreign company or a foreign society.

Foreigners are restricted from purchasing vacant residential land; Singapore landed property for sale such as Singapore bungalow for sale; and landed property in strata developments which are not approved condominium developments under the Planning Act.

If you are a foreigner wishing to purchase Singapore landed property for sale, you should first contact the Land Dealings (Approval) Unit of the Singapore Land Authority.

There are no restrictions on Singapore landed property for rent and Singapore bungalow for rent by foreigners.
